Walking in the desolate snow desert, waking up in the cold glaciers; looking at the white clouds in the distance, leaning over the rolling snow waves... Antarctica is a place rarely visited by tourists, but it is always extremely fascinating. There are very few artists involved in this field, and even fewer ink painters, and Amy Leung is one of them. In her paintings, Antarctica and ink complete an ensemble, and this cold wonderland at the end of the world has become a novel subject for contemporary ink.

As a practitioner of contemporary Chinese ink painting, Amy Leung integrates traditional elements with contemporary thinking, bringing the beauty of freehand ink painting into the eyes of a new generation of viewers. Whether it is polar themes or hazy impressionistic landscapes, artists are slowly injecting contemporary elements into Chinese ink paintings.

Amy Leung was born in Hong Kong and studied under Prof. Zhao Shaoang, an eminent practitioner of the Lingnan School of Chinese painting. Amy came to Beijing in the early ’90s and furthered her studies of painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts with Prof. Zhang Lichen.  In 1999 she was awarded with a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts.  Her first painting album “DELIGHT” was published in 2000 and since then her works have been shown in exhibits and collected by various organizations and collectors all over the world. In 2012 her second album “HARMONY” was published and coincided with her solo painting exhibition held in Beijing. In 2022 she held her solo contemporary Chinese painting exhibition “MELD/T” and the album was published in Hong Kong.  Amy currently is a member of the Hong Kong Artists Association and the Hong Kong Female Contemporary Art Association. She continues to be an influential representative for Contemporary Chinese painting artists.
